For a city founded in 600 A.D., there’s much history to be told, and we’ll tell a little more about the places that we visited which are worthwhile for you to check too when you visit it.
Known as the city of arts and music, it lives up to that mark, because as soon as we arrived, we saw lots of presentations around the main street named Buchanan, where there are also the main stores of the region.

The University of Glasgow
We had a very good feeling for being at such an important place and thinking about the so many people who studied and developed grand projects there. Those projects are present in the life of many people all around the world, but we often don’t pick up on it.
Some of the important figures I’ll mention are:
James Wilson – One of the founders of the United States of America.
James Watt – Mechanical engineer who developed steam engines that revolutionized the industry then.
Adam Smith – Known as the father of Economics.
Lorde Kelvin – Engineer, physics and mathematician who formulated the First and the Second Law of Thermodynamics, and 20 other more known inventions.
And many others who got grand prizes such as Nobel and had high offices of the government, a lot of ones as British Prime Minister.
It’s a very beautiful university, and it even seems that you are on a Harry Potter movie. It was created in 1451 and has a beautiful garden and Kelvingrove park around it, where Kelvin used to walk when he was going to give classes or work on his projects.

The Cathedral of Glasgow and the Necropolis
We can deem that cathedral a masterpiece, not so much for the outside, but for the amazing details that can be seen inside it for free. Designed in a Gothic style, it’s one of the most beautiful medieval buildings in the city, as it was built in 1136 and it marks the birth place of Glasgow, and it locates the grave of Saint Mungo, the patron and also deemed the founder of the city.
Right beside the church, you can walk around the necropolis (that is, a very old cemetery), as many tourists do, trying to take beautiful photos of the cathedral, as it’s located on a hill, where the view is a vantage point.

Botanical Garden and Glasgow Green
As we were still visiting the city in Summer, there were many trees and flowers showing all the beauty of colors and shades spread around the botanical garden, whereas inside the greenhouses, there was a too beautiful collection of plants of many kinds and countries. They are very worthwhile to visit.
That’s a great place for physical exercises or walking next to Kelvin river, and we saw that, in spite of the fact that it was a rainy day, many people joggled or walked with family peacefully.
As we love walking, a great option too is walking along Clyde river towards Glasgow green, a gigantic park with a huge lawn and a museum, excellent place to walk with family or have a picnic.

Merchant City and other Attractions
As in all of the European cities where we passed through during Summer, there are a lot of festivities and it wouldn’t be different there, nearby Merchant city, we found much party and fun for all the population, with live music, a lot of tents with handmade products and excellent food trucks with different types of food. It’s very worthwhile to go there in Summer.
In the city, there’s also a famous distillery, Clydeside Distillery, for whomever wants to learn a little more about manufacturing whiskies or only want to taste them, a science center of Glasgow that can be visited mainly for children and young people, as they’ll love to take part of experiments.

Safely of the city
For the period that we stayed we found it very safe, and we saw little policing in the streets and in the tourist spots. We walked a lot throughout the city during the day and it was very quiet, people are super friendly and helpful. We also avoid walking alone after 9 pm. We love walking around here.

Kind of Currency
Glasgow’s local currency is the Pound, and the exchange rate in August / 2019 is $ 1.00 to 0.82 Pound. We recommend changing the currency in a safe place such as an airport or an Exchange, bank in the city. It is good to always have the local currency.
Total Expenses
Our currency expenses (REAL) in Glasgow for 4 days for the couple looked like this:
Food: R$ 77.00 (market, snacks)
Transportation: R$ 17.00 (bus)
Accommodation: R$ 379.00 (Airbnb)
We passed quickly through that city and we were able to visit its main touristic attractions, mandatory passthrough for whomever goes to Edinburgh or vice versa, as it’s only 1 hour far by car. That is the next city we visited.
