It’s a surprising city with breathtakingly beautiful natural landscapes everywhere.

It is located in Table Bay coast and became very famous for its mountains, such as Table Mountain and Lion’s Head, which attract tourists every year.

And we went visiting that amazing city and tell you guys a little bit about every single touristic attraction we went to. Check it out!

Sea Point

It’s a place in front of the beach, with a wide sidewalk where people go running and walking their dogs.

The environment infrastructure is well maintained, with palm trees, gardens, benches for resting, recreation areas and beaches cleaned every early morning.

THE 4 BEACHES OF CLIFTON

The accesses to those beaches are just little entrances of stairs between two buildings, then you go down to get to the beach. They have such a white sand and the color of the water is incredibly blue.

You visit the beach for free. Lined up rocks divide the 4 beaches of Clifton, separating one beach from another. We couldn’t find accessibility, maybe there is some along to the buildings surrounding the beach.

TABLE MOUNTAIN

Table Mountain is a must-see tour to take in Cape Town. It’s 1,050 meters high and you can have a gorgeous view. We got there by walking to the station and, at the entrance, we purchased the tickets to access the cable cars (the round-trip price is R330.00, about 80 reais each person).

It also has trails to go up to the top, with a hard level 4-hour uphill, and you still can go up by cable cars and go down by the trail, it’s up to you and your willingness.

In the top of the mountain, there’s a lounge, where it’s possible to have a snack, some coffee, go to the restroom, use free wi-fi and you can relax in super comfortable sofas before going down.

People go there in the late afternoon to see the sunset.

Lion’s Head

We went up the 669-meter high Lion’s Head by the trail that starts in the end of Rhine RD street. We thought the trail is well marked and peaceful to walk in couple. Some people passed by us running in the same day, with dogs or by themselves, practicing physical activities.

It took us one hour and half to get to the base of Lion’s Head, but we couldn’t go up to the top, due to the fire that took place some weeks ago, the path was closed for maintenance. The mountain has free access, you’d better take water, sunscreen lotion, comfortable clothes and good sneakers, and you can never have too much snack, can you?

If you prefer, in all the length of Kloof Road, there are also uphill points, and you can take a bus to go there. You can also go by Uber until Signal Hill, which is beside Lion’s Head, and go on only one trail there. The best option is up to you.

PUBLIC POOLS

In all, there are 04 pools, a child one, an Olympic one, an intermediate one and one with a diving board, and they are all heated. Anyone can use it, but the daily rate is R25 rands (about R$6.00) each person, and they can enjoy all day long.

There are restrooms, kids’ area, and you can take chairs and umbrella.

BIKES RENTAL

As in a lot of countries visited by us, here in Cape Town you can rent a bike for R275 rands (about R$69.00) and keep it all day long, but it’s possible to rent it for less time.

The company Multiply is beside the public pools. There are a lot of kiosks surrounding it, with many kinds of food and drinks, and also tables in front of the beach where you can catch a glimpse of the sunset.

NATURAL POOLS

Over all Sea Point, there are natural pools filled up by the sea when the tide is high and, when it’s low, the water gets repressed. In the late afternoon, families and friends enjoy the place and children have a lot of fun.

Camp`s Bay

That beach is very famous, much attended by surfers, who make it so busy. It has a sandbank that runs until the water, which is incredibly blue.

In one of the sides of the beach, there’s a wide area prepared with a lawn, benches and a parking lot, where people go to in the late afternoon to catch a glimpse of the sunset and take a lot of photos! It’s possible to see the mountains of the 12 Apostles, Table Mountain and Lyon’s Head from there.

Kloof Road

It’s one of the main avenues in the city. Besides crossing all over Sea Point, it has a lot of accesses to go up Lyon’s Head, and all the structure of stores, supermarkets, drugstores, pubs, gas stations and much more.

Green Point

It has a huge coast, with a practical structure for sports, parks for children, free area for pets and free parking lot.

In front of the coast which has a view to the beach, it’s possible to see Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela was locked away). It’s an awesome place to take photos and walk outdoors.

Robben Island

That’s the island where Nelson Mandela was locked away for 18 years. It’s possible to visit the place through a 40-minute boat tour. The boats leave 3 times a day and cost R360.00 each person (about 90 reais).

The local guide was an ex-prisoner and tells all his experience lived that time. There is an access to rooms, restrooms, solitaries and outdoor games, among other things.

GREEN POINT STADIUM

That stadium was built for 2010 World Soccer Cup, hosted by South Africa. Nowadays, there are almost no games there, but it’s possible to visit the outer part. They rarely open for events.

V&A Waterfront

Its original name is Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, a compound with a mix de services offered to visitors. It has a complete mall, outer stores, a quite varied food court, beautiful restaurants, a Ferris Wheel and a playground. It is beside the port and a pier with a lot of companies that sell boat tours, helicopters, catamarans, among others.

Its structure is marvelous, with so many options in only one place.

Cape of Good Hope

Think about a grand place, see the wide blue ocean. Yes! You’ll have that view when you get to Cape of Good Hope, very known for being located in one of the end points in the south of the continent of Africa.

It’s just 70 kilometers far from Cape Town, you can go there by car or by tour bus, located inside Table Mountain National Park. The admission fee is R303.00 each person, which corresponds to about 75 reais, to access all of the places inside the park, once there are beaches and a lighthouse.

One tip is: if you can get there before 9:00am, the place is usually empty, but after that time the buses start to arrive, then it gets crowded.

Cape Point

That place is part of Table Mountain National Park, and you’ll pay R303.00 each person (75 reais) as admission fee. The park is huge, has beaches and it’s also possible to visit Cape of Good Hope.

Cape Point is 70 kilometers far from Cape Town, it’s possible to rent a car or go there by tour bus. The place is beautiful, has ramps and stairways to the lighthouse, you’ll get beautiful photos.

It has a whole infrastructure with a restaurant, stores, a funicular, a free restroom, a resting place and a free parking lot. You pay only for what you consume.

Boulder Beach

That beach is much visited by tourists, as it has a penguin colony and you can be rather near them. The beach has two sides, one has free access. You can take some photos, get close to them and see the environment they live in.

The other side has a preservation project that protects that penguin specie against extinction. That’s a pity, isn’t it? The cost to see the project is R147.00 each person (about 36 reais).

The experience is amazing, you can see and be close to that beautiful animal. Visiting and enjoying it is worthwhile. It is 45 kilometers far from Cape, on the way of Cape Point, you can plan and pass by that beach.

Constantia Valley

It is a valley surrounded by vineyards, where there are wineries side by side. They all have Tasting Room, where you can get into, visit the vineyard and try a good wine.

Some wineries charge an admission fee and other ones only what you consume, you’d better check out before going, so that you learn a little more about the place and choose what you wish to visit.

It is 12 kilometers far from the city of Cape Town, great option to spend the day, have lunch and take a tour around a vineyard. In downtown, there is a shopping where it’s possible to buy a lot of wine produced in the region. We liked it very much and had a good time.

EAGLES NEST WINES

That winery is fabulous and is located in Constantia Valley, a region surrounded by a lot of vineyards and just 12 kilometers far from Cape Town. There’s no admission fee for the winery and they have Tasting Room, where you can try good wine with a delicious platter for cold cuts.

It’s possible to take a tour by the vineyard, being explained about grapes and the wine produced there. The atmosphere is nice and peaceful, with ambient music and great service.

That day, we tasted a bottle of red wine with a medium platter of cold cuts. The price was R260.00, about 65 reais for the couple. You can’t help going there, it was wonderful!

Paragliders

In Cape Town, it’s very common to take the paragliders flight, done by local companies which are expert in that kind of tour.

It’s possible to hire it directly in Sea Point coast, where they land. But by the site www.paraglide.co.za, you can check out dates to book and buy the ticket. The tour is in the bracket of R1,300 each person (an average of 325 reais).

The runway is on Signal Hill, which is 350 meters high, next to Lion’s Head, which can be accessed by car, Uber or by the trails that take you directly there. It’s also very cool to go up that hill in the end of the day to see the sunset.

The Old Biscuit Mill

You can’t miss knowing that environment, it takes place every Saturday from 09:00am to 02:00pm. It gets crowded, there are handicraft stalls, sale of local products, clothes and a market to taste items right there or take them home. It has reasonable prices for the event.

Dollar Thrifty

It’s a car rental company with affordable prices and also small vehicles, simple hiring and insurance. The process is quick, you need to submit your passport and CNH.

The price changes according to the vehicle chosen, starting with the daily rate 76 reais and limited to 200 kilometers. For us, everything worked out, with no problems.

Supermarkets

We went to 02 supermarkets, Spar and Shoprite. Shopping was fine, we thought the products and the prices were very similar to the ones in Brazil.

Of course, there some local items, such as jerked beef of many flavors, a lot of options of food prepared right before and sold by the kilo (meat, vegetables, desserts, breads and sweets).

Main Road

It’s the main road in the city of Cape Town, which has a whole infrastructure of trades, restaurants, various stores, snack bars, supermarkets, gas stations, drugstores, pubs, nightclubs and much more.

You can be sure that you’ll find everything you look for there, and it’s well located, close to some visit points and the coast of the beach.

Gas Station

Gas station in South Africa have the same system as in Brazil. You stop the car next to the pump and the attendant comes asking how many liters you want to fuel.

They clean the windshield, finish fueling and you pay in cash or in the sales register. Very simple. Nowadays, the liter is R13.49 (about 3.37 reais per liter).

Intercape

It’s the local bus station, where you can find the ranges among next cities. We’re going to use that means of transportation a lot and we referred to three companies: Eldos Coaches, Intercape and Greyhound. They all have fairly affordable prices.

We dealt with Eldos Coaches from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, and the price was 165 reais for the couple. The bus is comfortable, clean and organized, and has air-conditioned too. In Africa, we used those three companies to move out from one city to another and liked the service very much.

MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION

Myciti bus is a new means of transportation in the city due to the World Cup that took place there, and you pay for the range you take. It’s necessary to buy Myconnect card in advance to board, it is R30.00 (7.50 reais), but you can reload it in recommended stations to take the trip.

Citysightseeing is a touristic bus, that goes by all the city and its touristic attractions, and it’s possible to be hired in the waypoint, but it is R200,00 per day (about 50 reais).

Uber works very well, we took some rides and everything worked out. It has a standard price for Uber. There are also taxis, and, like in Brazil, they’re kind of rivals.

Safety of the city

We thought it’s very safe during the time we stayed there. We saw some cops, sometimes police cars and, in general, there are security guards in touristic attractions.

Sure, as we are a couple, we didn’t stay in the street after 8:00pm, we went to a close pub at most, and we took the tours during the daytime. We didn’t feel at risk, but we are always attentive.

Kind of currency

The local currency of Africa is ZAR (rands), and the exchange in dollar for February/2019 is $1.00 to ZAR13.00. We recommend to exchange the currency in a safe place such as an airport or at Exchange, a bank in the city.

It’s always good to have the local currency, because they may accept dollar, but you lose in change or conversion.

EXPENSES IN CAPE TOWN (07 DAYS)

Our expenses in currency (REAIS) in Cape Town for the couple were the following:

Feeding: R$186.00 (market, snacks and drinks)

Transportation: R$385.00 (Uber, car rentals)

Tours: R$358.00 (tickets, gifts)

Lodging: R$350.00 (airbnb)

Cape Town was terrific, we walked in the streets peacefully and felt at home. People were very friendly everywhere we visited. We super recommend you to visit that city.
